Employee Spotlight - Liz Robinson

Our employee spotlight series aims to highlight the brilliant work of our team at Oracle Environmental. Next in the series is Liz Robinson, Assistant Environmental Consultant, based in our Malvern Office.

What does your day-to-day role at Oracle look like?

I have worked at OEE since September 2023 and my day-to-day role varies a lot, which is perfect for me. My role as an Assistant Environmental Consultant includes the provision of reports and paperwork, liaison with subcontractors and clients, equipment maintenance and keeping our laboratory / sample analysis area organised. I also undertake regular site work including borehole monitoring, low-flow groundwater sampling and soil investigations. Within the last 6 months, I started project managing domestic oil spill projects too.

How has the training process helped you get up to speed in your role, and is there any particular part of it that stood out to you?

The training has been vital in helping me to understand all aspects of the role, from managing the finances of a project to being able to systematically log and describe soil samples, the complexity involved in describing soil has been particularly eye-opening! I learn best from doing, not observing, and OEE gets you involved in site work from the get-go which really stood out to me and helped solidify everything I was learning in the training. Every member of staff is also always open to offering advice, support, or training whenever needed, which really makes the company feel like one big team. I've found that OEE is really invested in helping all their employees grow and improve, no matter the length of time worked in the industry.

What aspect of your role are you most excited to dive into, and how has the training prepared you for that?

I'm excited about being able to train future new employees in the use and maintenance of our sampling equipment - the training not only taught me how to do things, but why we do it too, which for me was vital to my understanding and growth.

What’s been your best experience of working at Oracle Environmental Experts to date?

About two months into the job, I had my first solo experience on a site, doing borehole sampling. By the time I left that day, I really felt like a true Environmental Consultant—I knew exactly what I was doing and why it mattered. It boosted the confidence I had in myself tenfold and confirmed that I’d found the perfect career for me. I also have to say, one of the unexpected highlights of the job is meeting all the friendly animals and pets at the different sites!

Lastly, what’s your perfect Sunday?

Okay, picture this: a beautiful morning walk on the Malvern Hills, where I get to greet all the friendly dogs along the way. Then, it’s off to my favourite vegan café for a much-needed coffee and a delicious all-day breakfast that I absolutely devour. Once I’ve waddled home, it’s time to throw on my shark hoodie, fire up a shark documentary (much to my partner's dismay), and dive into my shark book. The perfect end to the day? A cozy afternoon of board games and having a dance party with my family—ready to tackle the new week!
