Oracle Environmental Experts Limited is an independent company established in 2014 by Dr. Jon Burton and Dr. Diane Green. We have built a reputation as a provider of high quality expert environmental advice and our relationships with our clients are founded on trust and respect.
Jon is a contaminant hydrogeologist and oil spill response and remediation expert. He has been in the environmental industry for 17 years having worked with regulators and with specialist consultants and remediation contractors.
Previously Jon was the Technical Director with RAW, a specialist oil spill response and remediation firm where he worked for 12 years. He joined RAW in 2002 as a Senior Environmental Consultant and was promoted to Technical Director in 2005, becoming a legal director with RAW in 2011.
Jon has recently completed a term as Chairman of the UK Spill Association, the trade association representing companies, organisations and individuals working in the oil spill industry in the UK which is recognised by the UK Environmental and Maritime Regulators as the national industry body for the commercial and related interests of the industry. Jon is now an independent assessor on the spill response contractor accreditation scheme managed by UKSpill.
Jon has been a Member and Chartered Scientist with the Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management since 2006, is a Fellow of the Geological Society and is an accredited Environmental Expert Witness through his membership of the Academy of Experts and CIWEM. He has a BSc in Environmental Science and a PhD in Contaminant Hydrogeology from the University of Reading. After completing his PhD, Jon joined the Environment Agency for England and Wales where he was involved in the enforcement of contaminated land legislation and the provision of specialist advice on the investigation and remediation of contaminated land.
Diane is an environmental geochemist with extensive experience in the assessment and management of contaminated land and specific expertise in human health and controlled waters quantitative risk assessment.
Diane has worked in the environmental industry for 12 years having previously worked with consultants and remediation specialists. Prior to joining OEE, Diane held the position of Principal Scientist with RAW, leading the company’s human health risk assessment capabilities, providing technical support to the operations teams, and directing and managing expert and special projects. Diane also developed the company’s training and development programme and managed R&D projects. Diane joined RAW in 2004 as a Geo-Environmental Consultant, was promoted to Senior Geo-Environmental Consultant and then Operations Manager for the Midlands and Wales in 2008 and became Principal Scientist in 2012.
Diane was awarded a BSc (Hons) degree in Geology from the University of Wales College of Cardiff and an MSc (Adv) in Organic Geochemistry from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Diane subsequently completed a PhD entitled ‘Environmental Distribution and Sedimentary Fate of Hopanoid Biological Marker Compounds’ at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 2002. Diane is a Fellow of the Geological Society.
Sam is an MSc qualified hydrogeologist with experience in the brownfield investigation, remediation and spill response sectors.
Sam's previous experience includes the completion of Phase I and Phase II site investigations as well as supervision of remediation works on brownfield sites including petrol filling stations, rail depots, landfills and quarry sites. He also has extensive hands-on experience of commercial and domestic spill incidents having worked for one of the UK's leading spill response and remediation firms.
Sam has a BSc in Geology and Geography and an MSc in hydrogeology from the University of Birmingham.
After completing a degree in Biology from the University of Leeds, Gary worked as a Site Manager for Oceans ESU.
Gary was based on a large oil field in South Sudan and worked in a team of two managing a large reed-bed bioremediation system. Gary gained significant experience in bioremediation as well as other remedial strategies for large quantities of hydrocarbon-contaminated produced water.
Gary transferred to the Oceans ESU head office in June 2014 and worked as an Environmental Scientist with duties relating to brownfield remediation and reed bed treatment, VOC air monitoring for resin flooring application as well as regular shifts of site management in South Sudan. After gaining significant experience within the company’s UK operations Gary returned to the South Sudan working as Field Manager. His main duties were oversight of the project, final say on field-based decisions such as hydraulic management strategies, training and management of new and existing staff and all manner of client liaison.
Gary has joined the team at OEE as an Environmental Consultant and we are confident he will be a hugely valuable addition to the team.
Jim is an Associate Consultant with Oracle Environmental Experts. Jim is a senior Health, Safety and Environment professional with over 10 years’ experience in the sector.
Jim has worked for the Environment Agency in a regulatory position and more recently in senior Environmental and Health and Safety roles within UK Power Networks. Jim holds qualifications from IEMA including that of Lead Auditor and also holds NEBOSH General Certificate and Prince 2 project management qualifications. Jim is based in Pembrokeshire and is assisting OEE with work throughout Wales as well as developing environmental training, auditing and due diligence services.
Becky is an MSc qualified engineering geologist and joined the team at Oracle Environmental Experts as a junior environmental consultant in 2016. Becky completed her MSc in Engineering Geology from University of Portsmouth and commenced her career in the field of contaminated land with OEE. She has now been promoted to Environmental Consultant.
BBecky has a BSc in Geology from the University of Southampton as well as her MSc in Engineering Geology from the University of Portsmouth, where she achieved a distinction. Since joining OEE in 2016 Becky has proven to be a valuable member of the team. After gaining experience in project management and other aspects of our work she was promoted to environmental consultant in July 2018.
Luke joined the company in January 2017. Luke has joined the team as Senior Remediation Engineer and will be leading the development of our in-house soil and water remediation capabilities.
Luke comes to OEE with a wealth of hands-on experience in the design, build, operation and maintenance of remediation systems deployed on contaminated sites. With Luke's knowledge and experience, our in-house capabilities include NAPL recovery, SVE, DPVE, MPVE, in-situ chemical oxidation, bioremediation and groundwater recovery and treatment.
Working alongside the rest of the team, Luke will also be leading the company's remediation research and development work and we are confident that Luke will significantly enhance our remediation service and capability.
John Bald joined OEE in September 2017 as an Environmental Consultant based in our Malvern office.
John has an MSci in Marine Biology from the University of Southampton as well as valuable experience in the insurance industry having worked as a claims adviser for the Royal Bank of Scotland, and in the spill response and remediation sector having worked with one of the UK's largest companies operating in this field.
Given his knowledge and experience John has 'hit the ground running' and will be managing a wide range of spill response and remediation jobs for OEE.
Sam joined OEE in 2018 as a senior environmental consultant contributing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team, and currently manages a variety of domestic and commercial oil spill and remediation projects.
Previously, Sam studied for 4 years at Cardiff University specialising in sedimentary geology and achieved a MESci Geology degree with 1st class honours. Sam entered the environmental industry in 2012 and rapidly progressed to the role of environmental scientist at one of the UK’s leading spill response and remediation companies, where he successfully managed over 100 spill response and remediation projects. He specialises in the mitigation, investigation and remediation of hydrocarbon contamination incidents at domestic and commercial properties. Sam has gained extensive experience working with the UK’s leading loss adjusting companies and completes all aspects of project management including the planning, management and supervision of works from initial response phase to sign off.
Sam also has hands on experience remediating flood damage to commercial and domestic properties, comes from a previous background of landscape gardening which has given him a valuable understanding of groundworks and construction, and has enjoyed involvement in several research and development projects with a focus on the remediation of hydrocarbon impacted soils and gravels.
Keith is an invaluable member of the team at OEE and on joining the company in January 2018 he settled straight into his role as a Maintenance and Remediation Engineer, assisting our team in developing our in-house capabilities and R&D programme.
Keith began his mechanical/electrical engineer training at 16 and has since spent time working in factories and the service industries. Keith moved on to sub-contract electrical installation where he stayed for 10 years obtaining qualifications including 17th Edition Electrical Installations (2382) and Inspection and testing (2391).
Keith comes to OEE with a wealth of hands-on experience in the design, build, operation and maintenance of remediation systems deployed on contaminated sites including the design and build of containerised treatment systems and programmable logic control units. Working alongside the rest of the team, we are confident that Keith will significantly enhance our remediation services and help OEE in continuing to set exceptionally high standards for spill response and remediation treatment systems.
Grant started his career in the construction industry, working on and running teams on projects, including groundworks, general building and civils work. He moved into spill response 9 years ago, firstly as an incident response operator and more recently as a senior technician.
These roles took him across the UK and overseas and gave him a wide experience of managing a variety of waste and environmental incident projects. As a Senior Response Technician with OEE Grant will be assisting colleagues with developing and delivering the company’s spill response capabilities. He will also be delivering spill response training to colleagues and clients and helping to develop OEE’s technical guidance.
Elliot has recently graduated from the Camborne School of Mines with a BSc in Applied Geology. Elliott gained voluntary experience working for the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Earth Heritage Trust, which involved field investigation and updating their online archive.
Elliot’s main role at OEE will be to provide support to our environmental consultants and remediation engineers. He will be undergoing extensive training and mentoring from more experienced members of the team and we look forward to him growing his career with us.
